Why I Ditched My Exfoliating Mitt (Sort Of) and Fell for Dead Sea Salt Scrubs

Why I Ditched My Exfoliating Mitt (Sort Of) and Fell for Dead Sea Salt Scrubs

I’ll be the first to admit it I’m a sucker for silky smooth skin. As FFS’s chief product developer, I’ve tried my fair share of scrubs, mitts, and all sorts of exfoliating gadgets in pursuit of that elusive silky smoothness. I love our exfoliating scrub (obviously), and I’m a big fan of our mitt and the two together are a match made in heaven. But, and here’s my confession, the mitt can sometimes get a bit… neglected.

You know what I mean. Life gets busy, things pile up, and next thing you know your trusty mitt has gone from skincare hero to smelly bathroom villain. Guilty as charged.

So, I went on a mission. I wanted something that could give me that satisfying scrubbed clean feeling without the guilt of neglecting my mitt or the faff of having to constantly wash it. Something that sloughed away dead skin cells, left my skin soft and smooth. I wanted simple fuss free exfoliation.

And after some serious research (and a bit of pampering, obviously), I found my skincare soulmate: Dead Sea Salt scrubs.

Why Salt Scrubs?

Now, I’ve tried loads of scrubs in my time; sugar scrubs, coffee scrubs, you name it, but salt scrubs hit different. The oversized granules give me just the right amount of exfoliation. Plus, salt scrubs have been a staple in beauty for literally thousands of years, the ancient Egyptians were onto this long before us.

But Dead Sea salt? That’s next level with the oil infused salts in this scrub it’s just the right amount of oiliness, not too greasy, but enough to leave that extra luxurious feel and post wash hydration my skin craves.

What Makes Dead Sea Salt So Special?

Dead Sea salt isn’t your bog standard table salt. It’s packed with skin loving minerals like magnesium, potassium, and calcium. These minerals don’t just sit pretty, they get to work. They help hydrate the skin, improve its barrier function, and even soothe irritation.

There’s even some pretty compelling science behind it. A systematic review (PMID: 22503590) looked at the therapeutic effects of Dead Sea treatments and found real benefits, particularly for conditions like psoriasis and various rheumatologic diseases. That’s not just beauty buzz, it’s bona fide evidence.

And while we can’t say for sure how much of those minerals actually get absorbed, plenty of people (myself included) swear by the difference they make in skin texture, hydration, and calming inflammation.

So, Why Did We Make One?

Because I needed it. Simple as that.

I wanted that mineral rich, deep exfoliation in a no fuss formula. And if I needed it, I figured you might too. So, we spent many months fine tuning everything, especially the fragrance. (You know we’re fussy about scents at FFS.) We wanted something that hit that perfect balance fresh, uplifting, and just the right amount of mmm without overpowering. I think we nailed it.

This is actually our first cosmetic product made outside the UK, and trust me, that wasn’t a decision we made lightly. But when it comes to Dead Sea Salt, the benefits are unmatched. The sourcing, the quality, it had to be the real deal.

Dead Sea Salt Scrub vs. Regular Scrub: What’s the Difference?

Here’s the thing: regular scrubs do a good job of exfoliating. Whether they’re made with sugar, coffee grounds, or apricot kernels, they’ll help slough off dead skin cells and leave you feeling smoother.

But Dead Sea salt scrubs? They do that and more. Here’s why:

Dead Sea Scrub Advantages:
Mineral-Rich Goodness: Packed with magnesium, potassium, calcium minerals that are great for skin health.

Deep Exfoliation:
The salt granules are just the right size to exfoliate without being harsh. They tackle dullness and texture, stimulate blood flow, and leave your skin glowing.

Hydration Boost:
Those minerals? They help your skin hold onto moisture, which is a win for anyone dealing with dryness.

Potential Benefits for Skin Conditions:
Dead Sea minerals have anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated skin and may even help with eczema or psoriasis.

Bye-Bye Rough Patches:
Regular use keeps those pesky ingrown hairs at bay and smooths out the rough bits (elbows and knees, I’m looking at you).

Typical Scrub Advantages:

Standard scrubs are fab for removing dead skin cells, but they don’t offer the same mineral rich nourishment.

So, if you’re just after a basic exfoliation, sure any scrub will do. But if you’re after that something extra that deep, mineral-infused skin treat, Dead Sea salt scrubs are where it’s at.

How to Use a Salt Scrub (Without Annoying Your Skin)

Except for your face (nope, don’t do it), you can use a salt scrub pretty much everywhere. But focus on areas that need a bit of extra love like elbows, knees, ankles, and any rough patches. Just avoid open wounds (ouch) and don’t use a scrub right after shaving. In fact, use it before to buff away dead skin and get the smoothest shave ever.

How often?
If your skin’s on the sensitive side, once a week is plenty. Otherwise, two to three times a week is the sweet spot.

Final Thoughts

Let’s be honest, overused exfoliating mitts are a bacterial breeding ground (yuck). And while I’ll always have a soft spot for our mitt, sometimes you need an exfoliation session that’s as easy as scoop, scrub, rinse, and go.

So, if you’re looking to elevate your skincare routine, I can’t recommend our Tranquil Escape Dead Sea Body Scrub enough. It’s been a game changer for my skin, and I hope it’ll be for yours too.

Here’s to softer, smoother, glowier skin with zero mitt guilt.

Love,
